The John Tradition: All You Need is Love
Wednesday, September 5 - Friday, September 7, 2018
Retreat Description: John's gospel was finalized almost seventy years after the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. A Christian community, often referred to as the Johanine community, reflects an early Christian tradition that included Jewish, Samaritan, and Gentile cultures. As we read through John's gospel we see how each of the miracles, which John calls 'signs,' are followed by reflections and interpretations of their deeper spiritual meaning, which show how Jesus makes the Father present to us. In John, Jesus is sent from above. The synoptic, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, show Jesus more in his human dimension. John's gospel is what we could call the gospel of the mystics, a meditation on Jesus the Christ. In our reflections we will pay attention to how Jesus makes the Father present to us by looking at the over-all-structure: the "Book of Signs" and the "Book of Glory."
